Print Block Eggs.......Gardeners Friend

Indian Print block cane toppers, its been a bit of time in the making, but I've finally finished them and got some photographs to show you how they turned out after two firings.


I thought as they were the same size as regular eggs it made sense to package them in egg boxes.



Here is how they look fitted onto the canes, they are pictured supporting three tomato plants.



Here is a close up view of the Indian print marks. I made them initially from handmoulding an egg form then printing onto the clay with the Indian print blocks.(see my original post back at Easter) I then created a plaster slip mould with these eggs and created more of them through casting them with clay slip.





This is what they looked like a little while after releasing from the slip mould.

Some of the new things I have been working on......
These labelled plant containers are part of a selection of succulent planters each with its own imprinted message on the front, these ones read "Plant Me" and "Water Me".
They are made from slabs of rolled out clay and have the seems visable I have used oxide to pick out the lettering.

Terracotta commissions.............Exterior plant pockets

Its been ages since I have made anything from terracotta clay, I've had two bags stored under my work table for so long that it took a bit of working and preparing before I made these two plant pockets, one is a commission for a lady and the other I have made "just in case"........ (just in case it gets damaged or doesn't make the firing process) as in my experience terracotta clay tends to be more problematic with cracking ect.. than my other clays. If they both survive it will get put on a stall.



I am working from a picture of a similar planter I made a few years ago from stoneware.




These planters just need a hole near the top to hang on the wall, but the clay it too soft right now, it will need to be dry enough to handle and pick up. After they will be left to dry out slowly and then fired in the kiln.




This is my seal,
 I stamp this on larger exterior pieces of work.
