More Glass Fusing with clear glass and copper and brass inclusions

I have been trying out some new designs with these copper and brass infused glass pieces. I have continued with the folk/Scandinavian inspired theme this Christmas and have added some little copper Dala horses and infused them between two sheets of clear glass.
Opening the kiln to glass infused firings is new for me, its great! These little pieces have sparkle.

glass melted into pottery dishes

The glass used is regular clear glass melted into cobalt glazes, I have melted the glass over a clay ammonite which was previously cast into plaster to make the mold.

The porcelain key in the second image was also cast and infused within the glaze and the glass.

I really like using different clays together with different glass to create these effects, and as you would expect no two are alike.

Here you can see the porcelain key immersed within the glass and glaze.

This mottled effect was made using dried glaze powder flecked onto the moss green glaze and glass added onto the circular porcelain disc

For more bowls made this way please check into my folksy shop where they are being sold individually.

These little cloud plaques have become very popular and I have made dozens of them now. These two have to be my favourites though

Glass fusion experiments

After a recent course I attended in Glass fusion, we have implemented this into the Art department.
Here are some of my pieces from the course and experiments since.
Glass fusing with copper inclusions

Also with copper inclusions and lots of glass bead, done on the course.

These I did at home and have not been fired just yet, they are clear glass with copper and brass sheet inclusions. These I have made at home.

This one I also did at home and fired but as you can see it is underfed as it hasn't fully fused.

Also a small piece made on the course

Silver Birch Ring Pots

Really looking forward to seeing how these turn out once they are fully dried.
The lids are sliced, however discovered that they are still holding a lot of moisture, so their centres haven't been drilled out yet. I really like the bark on silver birch trees, and was very happy to have found this branch to see how they look once all finished.

Weddings and Rings

Ive been keeping myself out of mischief creating these little rustic ring pots which I can personalise for the bride and groom.

The pot above was made by my husband to keep our rings in for our wedding day. A little smaller than the ones I am making for the shop, this one only measures 4cm x 3cm, just the right size for our names and our rings, but I'm making them bigger to fit more lettering on and of course larger rings. We thought this was perfect for a Rustic wedding.

Personalised Wedding labels post firing

My last blog was about making these personalised wedding labels. They have had their first firing and I have tried one out on one of the jars I have been collecting.

 original post

These are the tags after the inicial firing, they have kept the curved shape during the firing quite well, so they should fit around the jars very nicely.

At the moment they don't have anything to make the lettering stand out, so they will go back in the kiln after I have put some iron oxide onto them and given them a wash with clear glaze.

This is how I would like them to look, the lettering is a little darker on this one as Ive filled it with a fine liner to see how it would look, Ive tied them with garden string through the side holes to attach them onto the jar.
So easy

Personalised Wedding labels

These are initial stamped clay labels that will be used to dress up some flower vases and jars on a sweety bar at my wedding next year.
They have been made flat and stamped with the first letter of our names and later formed around a tube to create a curved shape to them so that they sit around the jars. I plan to wrap some burlap or lace around the jars aswell so I am looking forward to seeing how these turn out.

Here is how they looked just after I had cut them all out them and personalised them.

Here is how they all looked after they were formed around a tube.
Here is how they looked after the first firing.

Wedding favours part 2

Always lots of weddings being prepared at the beginning part of the year, it begins to tail off now and I won't do so many for a while.

Here is my latest commission, instead on the central hole on the heart the customer wanted a hole on the side so that they could be tied neatly onto napkins on the wedding tables.
Im really pleased with these, very simple and a chic idea to tie them onto the napkins so that the guest names can be written on them.
120 just got sent out to there new recipient!

You can contact me directly for enquiries about wedding favours or you can view them here for more info
